Frequently Asked Questions – Cistus Lung Herb Tea: Plants, Preparation & Taste

Which two plants make up the tea and how to brew it.

Cistus Lungwort Tea

Which two plants are in the cistus-lungwort tea?

The cistus (Cistus incanus) from the Mediterranean region and the native lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis), a woodland plant with spotted leaves. Both are listed in the herbal books of the monastery tradition.

How do I prepare the cistus-lungwort tea?

One teaspoon per cup, pour boiling water over it and steep for 8 to 10 minutes. The cistus needs the longer steeping time to release its aroma. From 50 g you get around 25 cups.

What does the cistus-lungwort tea taste like?

Bitter and slightly resinous from the cistus, complemented by the mild, herbal note of lungwort. It has a stronger flavor than a plain leaf tea — honey rounds off the bitterness nicely.

Is cistus the same as a rose?

No, despite the name, they are not related to each other. The cistus is a shrub of the Mediterranean maquis, whose flowers only resemble roses. It belongs to its own plant family.
